Stabbursdalen Resort is the perfect destination for birdwatchers. Situated by the Stabburselva River and Porsangerfjorden, in the heart of Finnmark, this area boasts a unique birdlife and fascinating flora. Stabbursnes Nature Reserve is known as Norway's prime spot for bird species, and it's one of the most important wetland areas for birds in the Nordic region.
The area attracts a diverse range of birds, including ducks, geese, and waders, using it as a resting spot during migration, a molting area for ducks, and a vital wintering ground, especially for eider ducks. A total of 23 species of ducks (including 6 species of geese), 25 species of waders, 12 species of gulls, and several other wetland birds have been recorded here, including cranes.
On the vast coastal meadows, one can find numerous species of ducks and geese, with the most numerous being the mallard, pintail, barnacle goose, and bean goose. Stabbursnes is particularly significant for the rare bean goose, as the large flock that rests here each spring constitutes a significant portion of Norway's total bean goose population. The area also serves as a stopover for a couple of hundred Canada geese and several hundred Greenland white-fronted geese.
In addition to the larger wading birds, many other species can be spotted at Stabbursnes, including various gull species such as the herring gull, black-headed gull, cormorant, and black-backed gull. The reserve is also an important resting area for the rare hooded crow, and sightings of several white-tailed eagles have been reported in the area.
For bird enthusiasts, Stabbursdalen Resort is a true haven, where one can explore and experience the rich birdlife and stunning nature of the north.
